Designing for Sustainability: Logitech’s FY23 Impact Report

In the evolving business landscape, sustainability is no longer a mere buzzword but a fundamental requirement. At Logitech, we have fully embraced this shift towards sustainability, making significant strides as detailed in our Fiscal Year 2023 Impact Report released last month.

A simple but powerful goal drives our commitment to sustainability: to remove more carbon than we produce and achieve climate positivity by 2030. Since 2019, we’ve reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than 56% and decreased our carbon intensity by 74%. We’ve also reduced Scope 3 value chain emissions by over 21% since 2021.

Our Design for Sustainability approach is a cornerstone of our sustainability efforts. It focuses on transitioning to lower-impact materials, promoting circular alternatives, and addressing hidden impacts early in the design process. This approach is critical as sourcing materials and manufacturing processes account for 65% of our total carbon footprint.

Key highlights from our sustainability journey include:

  1. Nearly two-thirds of our products now use post-consumer recycled plastic.
  2. Over 50% of our new products feature FSCTM-certified packaging.
  3. We’ve pledged to carbon label our products, with 42% of products shipped in 2022 bearing a product carbon footprint label.
  4. We’re increasingly using materials made with renewable energy in our product lines.
  5. Our global facilities are powered by 94% renewable electricity.

In today’s world, the integration of sustainability into business models is a necessity. The reasons for this shift are as varied as they are compelling. We understand that sustainable practices are not just good for the planet, but also for the bottom line. Embracing energy efficiency, waste reduction, and better resource management can lead to significant cost savings over time, proving that sustainability and profitability can indeed go hand in hand.

We know that businesses are increasingly being held accountable by a variety of stakeholders. Consumers, employees, and regulators alike are demanding more than just lip service to environmental stewardship. They want to see tangible actions and measurable results. This growing pressure is a clear signal that businesses must demonstrate their environmental commitment in real and meaningful ways.

Sustainability is emerging as a powerful differentiator in a competitive market. Far from being a hindrance, it offers rich opportunities for innovation. Companies that embed sustainability into their DNA can unlock new possibilities, create value, and set themselves apart in the marketplace. The shift towards sustainability in business can be so much more than doing what’s right for the environment but also about seizing opportunities for growth, innovation, and long-term success.

At Logitech, we believe that our actions speak louder than words. That’s why we’re not just talking about sustainability; we’re embedding it into every aspect of our business. We’re not just responding to the shift towards sustainability; we’re actively shaping it. From our commitment to becoming climate-positive by 2030 to our focus on using post-consumer recycled plastic in our products, we’re taking tangible steps to reduce our environmental impact. We’re committed to leading the way towards a more sustainable future in the tech industry, and we invite you to join us on this journey.

We share a lot of learnings and knowledge with local Tasmanian organisations – they’re looking at the Universities meeting rooms and Video Conferencing solutions to guide the design process of their own spaces.

Our previous video conferencing service was proving inadequate, which was deterring employees from using it. We decided to switch to Logitech. The new solutions have been a real hit with our employees, delivering excellent performance and seamless integration with our existing work collaboration applications. Being able to manage the technology in house also means we can now be proactive in our incident response, meaning less downtime for users.
